The rows of embassy housing for the Federation core planets had a small school nestled within it. While it was started for children of embassy employees, diplomats and ambassadors, it was mostly populated by children of parents who worked and went to the academy. The classed tended to skew human, even if the instructors were as diverse as the Federation itself.
Even in uniform, Jim felt out of place pushing past the gated entrance and climbing the few stone steps to the front door. A chime rang as soon as his feet hit the top step. He hadn't been able to drop Savel off this morning with Bones which rankled even hours later, but he could do this. The hurried steps coming up behind him could only be Bones catching up to him.
"No comm can only be a good thing, right?"

"I bet he wowed every kid in there." Jim examines the clean lines and organized cubbies and shakes his head. If even one kid in there was anything like Jim had been, that level of cleanliness was doomed. He squeezes Bones hand and draws to a stop in the doorway to the classroom. "I-"
"You must be Savel's other parent." An older woman stepped out of seemingly nowhere, startling Jim even as he reache dto shake her hand. "Your son is just finishing cleaning our discovery center, and then he'll be ready to go."
