"Hey! Bones! Hey, Bones, wait up."

Jane jogged across the quad and fell in step with him once she caught up.

"Why weren't you at orientation?" Jane was hoping for some entertainment. Not an extra nap. She could feel Pike's eyes watching her the whole damn time like he was judging her already and she really, really needed someone to not be whispering about her behind her back.

Even Uhura had looked stunned when she put two and two together about her and that was so uncool there weren't good enough words in Standard to express Jane's frustration with this whole place.

She had almost not stopped him. He hadn't sought her out once since they arrived. He'd been so drunk and miserable she couldn't even be sure he'd remember her.

But here she is.
